OPEN AUDITIONS - Summer Play MONDAY 17th March and FRIDAY 21st March at 7:30pm
Play runs June 11 – 14 & every Wednesday to July 16th
Open Auditions are being held for our Summer production, Absent Friends by Alan Ayckbourn who, for those who don’t know, is one of this country’s best Comedy writers and this reads as a very funny play.
Synopsis: Colin must be comforted in his grief over the death of his fiancée. His friends, who never met the girl, arrange a tea party for him. Understandably, they are on edge wondering what to say to him. But there is more to their unease than that, for Diana and her husband Paul, John and Evelyn, and Marge - who's husband is perpetually out of circulation with trivial illness - are all kept together by a mixture of business and cross-marital emotional ties. By the time Colin arrives for tea, tenseness contrasts dramatically with his air of cheerful relaxation. He is the only happy one among them, and his happiness and insensitive analysis of their trouble causes each in his own way to break down.
Cast of 6 - 3 male and 3 female age 40ish but very flexible.
Director – Freda Welton – If you are unable to make either of these auditions but are interested in any aspect of the production please ring Freda on 01626 775140 or Roger Smith on 01626 879944. Come along, maybe meet new friends, and enjoy being a part of the Carlton Summer.
THE ODD COUPLE
Congratulations to all those involved with The Odd Couple, if you missed it you missed an excellent production. The play is this years South Devon Drama Federation’s entry - we wish it well. Wash up is on March 5th at 8pm with Adjudicator Peter Reeves giving his comments – come along, hear what he has to say and, above all, support the cast and team.

THE PROFESSIONALS
We have two professional productions this month – the first, The New Machine presents Pink Floyd, are billed as probably the best Floyd tribute band in the U.K and they play on March 8th. We hope you will be joining us there.
The second is an exciting venture – Creative Cow a small company of professional actors on tour who with their director Amanda Knott collaborate to present modern classics on a quality shoestring. They present Harold Pinter’s the LOVER on March 19th Don’t miss it. £8 for a professional play, can’t be bad
These professional productions are vital to our success and future and they will, hopefully, get good audiences – why not join them
12th TEIGNMOUTH DRAMA FESTIVAL -13th, 14th & 15th March This promises to be a good one with teams from as far away as Dartmouth, Dittisham and Ivybridge competing against local teams such as Triangle. The Players entry is Act 1 of the Odd Couple and we wish it well. Season tickets are available covering all three days (Eight One Act plays plus adjudication by Tony Rushforth G.O.D.A.) for £15 – children £10 or single evenings at £6 (£4). Although this is not a Players production the Festival was started and is still organised by members of the Players and we are taking part so please support it.
THEATRE – THE LATEST
We continue to meet with Teignbridge District Council to discuss the future of the Carlton site. We have provided them with plans and details of what we need in any potential new building and have been and will continue to meet with local councillors, the Project Manager and members of the development panel and other interested parties together with a presence on other local organisations and environmental groups. To date these meetings have been very positive and suggest that everyone is working together and realise this is an opportunity to provide something good for the town. Together with a few local Artists we have also set up a new Arts group, Teignmouth Arts Advisory Group (TAAG) with an aim of getting greater co-operation between Arts groups in the town leading to better visibility of each other’s events and, hopefully, increasing attendances and providing a stronger presence in negotiations.
